Basko is an online marketplace for Australia and New Zealand's independent grocers — the family-run fruit shops, world-food markets, butchers and delis that the big chains can't replace.
Why we built it
The supermarket giants have had online shopping for years. The stores that actually make a suburb worth shopping in — the grocer who stocks the right rice, the butcher who cuts it the way you ask, the deli that smells like your grandmother's kitchen — mostly haven't. Building an online store is expensive, and the big delivery platforms weren't built for groceries or for small margins.
So we built the missing piece: one place where a local store can put its real shelves online in an afternoon, and where you can shop those shelves with the same information you'd want in the aisle — the price per 100 grams, the ingredients, the allergens, whether it's in stock right now.
When you order, the store confirms it before your card is charged, packs it themselves, and hands it to you over their own counter or delivers it locally. The money stays in your suburb. That's the whole idea.

Local first, always
We exist so independent grocers can compete online — not to replace them. Stores keep their own names, prices and relationships with their customers.
Fair to both sides
Shoppers pay the shelf price. Stores pay a small commission only when they make a sale. Nobody pays to simply be here.
Every cuisine belongs
Some of the best grocery shopping in Australia happens in world-food stores. Indian, Asian, Middle Eastern and continental grocers are at the heart of what we do — festivals included.
Honest information
Unit prices on everything, declared allergens on every product, and reviews only from people who actually ordered. If we can’t show it honestly, we don’t show it.
Our promises to you
Your card is never charged until the store says yes to your order.
Every price shows its unit price, so you can compare fairly.
If something goes wrong, a real person fixes it — refunds go straight back to your card.
We never sell your details, and we never spam you.
